Koronaios: Greece “sinks” into the “red” – The extent of the blockade and the scenarios for the market

[ad_1]

With Greece “sinking” to the “red numbers” and anxiety at its peak, as cases persist and the ICU suffocates, a year has passed since the appearance of the coronavirus in our country. The invisible enemy “besieges” our country and continues to show its strength with the assessments of the experts of the Committee on Infectious Diseases to reduce the epidemiological burden and accelerate the leveling of the epidemiological curve to go … walk.

As a result, the universal lockdown on Attica lasted for at least another week. Next to the Basin of 790 cases in just 24 hours in quarantine is the municipality of Kalymnia (13 new cases), Kordelio (Thessaloniki), PE Evia (28 new cases) and Arcadia (12 new cases).

In fact, as if that were not enough, more and more areas are turning “red” as of tomorrow, a sign that the situation not only does not improve, but also worsens as the days go by. Indicative of the above is that according to the information the confinement in Attica will not be completed on March 8, but will continue -at least- until Carnival Monday, that is, March 15.

Concerns about reduced lock performance

Vana Papaevangelou also referred to the reduced performance of the lockdown, during today’s briefing on the course of the deadly virus.

“What concerns us is that the reduction in epidemiological burden that we would expect after the new implementation of the closure in Attica was not observed in the last 2.5 weeks. We expected slightly faster smoothing of the curve. But that did not happen. Probably because the spread of the virus in the community was greater or because the weather, the winter weather, did not help us, ”said Ms. Papaevangelou.

Certainly, the prevalence of mutated strains contributes significantly, since, as EODY announced yesterday, at least more than 1,000 strains have been isolated in the territory and we all now know that the main characteristic of these mutations is that they are transmitted much more easily. from one person to another, he added.

“Of course, it is also clear that the blockade cannot work as it did last spring. The implementation of the measures is different and everyone’s fatigue significantly affects our behavior,” he concluded.

For his part, Gikas Majorkinis stated that based on the data published by EODY, the number of active cases in the territory has increased significantly in the last week, as well as the pressure on the Health system.

“ICU units were affected by approximately 12% in the last week, slightly more than last week, while the number of new imports with COVID-19 increased significantly to a level of around 300 per day.” Based on the increase in imports in the previous week, we expect a small increase in ICUs and deaths next week, “he said.

He also highlighted that “perhaps the greatest challenge of all is the fatigue due to voluntary social distancing. However, it is not just our challenge. It is the challenge facing the entire planet. A challenge that requires patience. We are in the final stretch of the marathon that started a year ago ”.

“At the same time, we are witnessing the arrival of new executives, who have increased transferability, spreading to different parts of the world. In Greece, its effect seems to be being addressed at the moment, as the increases we see are slight compared to those we see in other countries. On the other hand, the data from the effectiveness of the vaccines in these strains are particularly encouraging, as we see that in the UK, where the B117 mutant is prevalent, there is a significant reduction in some vaccines and a 95% reduction in the need for admission to Hospitals ”, he said.

“Bell” for Piraeus and West Attica

Another area that seems to be “suffering” is Piraeus. “It is worth noting that the situation in the Peripheral Unit of Piraeus is of particular concern as active cases have increased from 721, on February 18, to 1302 today,” said Mr. Hardalias.

More specifically, in the municipality of Piraeus, active cases have increased by almost 80%, from 533 on February 18 to 910 yesterday, while a growing trend is observed in the other municipalities of the Piraeus Regional Unit, since active cases have increased in Korydallos from 45, on the 18th of the month, to 95 until yesterday, in Perama from 28 to 50, in Nikaia from 64 to 70 and in Keratsini-Drapetsona from 51 to 65. Due to the particularly burdensome epidemiological picture of the region, more testing is needed to limit the spread of the virus. That is why we call on the municipal authorities to take all the necessary initiatives, in order to contribute even more effectively to this effort, ”he said.

At the same time, as he explained, “the picture is similar, unfortunately, in the Western Sector of Athens, where there was also a growing trend, since active cases have gone from 835, on February 18, to 1,036. We have an increase, that is, 24% in a week. A trend that does not present significant differences from one municipality to another. The situation is critical as it is dangerous and that is why we ask the residents of these Regional Units, especially Piraeus and Western Athens, but also the entire Attica Region to be very careful and consistent in observing the measures “.

To open stores

However, the scenarios for the next day can be dire, but the government is considering how it will be possible to open the stores soon, if the epidemiological picture allows it.

This is the reason why, according to information from MEGA, the stores are scheduled to open on March 8 or 16.

According to the latest epidemiological data, the scenario of March 8 seems to be moving away and that of March 16 is more favorable.

In any case, the scientists have the last word, who are expected to make their presentation within the next week.

Finally, suggestions for opening schools are postponed.
