The scenes that unfold hour by hour in the country’s hospitals and mainly in Attica, where more than half of the country’s cases are recorded, are dramatic. The number of intubated patients rose to 506, while 51 people died on Wednesday.
The number of mutations, especially the British one, which is detected in an increasing range, does not allow to stabilize the number of cases, which reached 2,570 on Thursday.
The virus infection increased to 501 the admission of new Covid-19 patients to the hospitals in the territory, which means that the average admission of seven days is 408 patients.
Tsiodra and Sypsa autopsy
After the terror vigil in Laiko, Sotiris Tsiodras and Nikos Sypsas went to the emergency hospital and visited the patients. 45 beds were filled in 10 hours, and the top two infectious disease specialists are particularly concerned about the speed with which clinics are filling.
Two private clinics, Peristeri Medical Center and Leto, entered the fray Thursday. Experts estimate that the situation will get worse next week, before we start to see an improvement, without hiding their concern about whether hospitals will withstand the pressure.
The hospital map is changing
Attica and Thessaloniki are also at the center of the pandemic on Thursday, gathering the majority of cases. This is also the reason why the map of hospitals in the Attica region changes day by day, as entire hospitals, especially Sismanogleio, are transformed into structures for the exclusive treatment of COVID cases, while private clinics (such as “Herrikos Dunan”) are part of the NSS system in service.
And as the SARS-CoV-2 attacks continue, epidemiologists and infectious disease specialists are increasingly concerned about the resilience of the healthcare system, as new patients proliferate every day.
In fact, there are voices within the Committee of Experts calling for the entire country to be painted “intense red”, a proposal that will be evaluated on Friday during its regular meeting.
More than 4,000 patients
The criticality of the situation in the SNE is eloquently reflected (y) in the number of patients intubated in the last ten days, when there was an increase in viral load and the number of cases.
In particular, in the last 10 days in the hospitals of the territory there is an increase of 100 people in intubated by Covid-19. In the last 24 hours alone, no, they increased by 27.
In total, more than 4,000 COVID-19 patients, with an average age of 67, are receiving treatment across the country.
“Intubation will increase even more”
The assessment that intubation will increase even more in the near future was made by Mina Gaga, coordinating director of the 7th Sotiria Pulmonary Clinic.
“People don’t get off the ventilator right away, while others need help every day,” he said, speaking to MEGA, noting at the same time that household infections are now a big hit. “From the moment the virus enters the house, everyone is stuck.”
As he said “I would like things to open up, but on the other hand there is pressure in the hospitals. It is very difficult to handle the problem. “
Trouble everywhere
The president of EINAP, Matina Pagoni, also referred to the suffocating pressure that the health system and hospitals are receiving. According to her, the situation is difficult and there are currently serious problems in all hospitals.
“The coverage of the beds has reached 90%. “In Attica, which is the big problem and the viral load continues to rise, the occupancy rate in intensive care units is 91%,” he said, adding:
“I think that for two more days we will have difficulties with imports and from then on there will be a reduction in cases, according to the data we have so far.”
High viral load
Experts are sounding the alarm about the pandemic situation in the country, with the latest analyzes of sewage in both Attica and Thessaloniki, to witness a grim outlook.
Speaking to MEGA, Nikos Thomaidis, Professor of Analytical Chemistry at EKPA, noted that an analysis of Attica’s wastewater continues to show that the viral load in the capital remains at high levels.
“We are concerned because it translates into constantly new cases and a constant spread,” he said, noting that this may be due to asymptomatic patients.
“Possibly this means that there is a spread that is ‘under the radar’ and it may be because it is asymptomatic,” concluded the professor.
