Koronaios: Concern about 25 deaths in three days – What about ICUs?

[ad_1]

Coronavirus cases in our country may have been reduced today and for the second day below 300, but in no case is there complacency, since like every week the reduction is attributed to the lower number of tests carried out on the weekend. Of course, we must not overlook a possible stabilization trend of the pandemic in our country, something that to ensure we will have to continue for at least a week.

It should be noted that since last Friday, when 391 new cases were registered, the course on Saturday with 306 cases, on Sunday with 280 and today 295 shows a slight decrease.

And if the small reduction in cases gives us little hope, the deaths at the same time remind us how dire the situation continues to be and how much attention is needed. Meanwhile, the sad list of patients who have lost the battle against the deadly virus grows. In particular, 26 people died, 25 of them in the last three days.

In fact, 65 people have died in October from the coronavirus, with 40% being losses from the last three days.

Since October, when only one death was recorded, 5 deaths followed on Saturday, 13 on Sunday – which is a negative record for our country since the start of the pandemic – and another 7 today.

At the same time, ICUs are under pressure, the number of intubants being 93, up from 99 last Friday.

Only 44 ICU beds available in Attica

At the same time, Attica is in the “orange” but in the last few hours he’s flirting with the “red” as imports, pipes and cases create an explosive cocktail.

A major problem is pressure on hospitals in the basin, as intensive care beds fill up quickly. The Health Ministry has launched a road race to fill the gaps and protect hospitals before November.

As the number of hospitalizations increases, so does the number of intubated patients, creating a heart attack in the operation of the NSS. In Attica there are 82 places occupied and 44 available, out of a total of 126.

More than 70 percent of those intubated are in Athens, with Sotiria and Evangelismos receiving the most pressure. 27 patients fight for their lives in the ICU in Sotiria, where only three beds remain empty, and another 18 in Evangelismos.

In the basin, doctors and nurses are fighting the units. 12 patients are hospitalized in the intensive care unit of Attica, 5 in Thriasio and another 6 in the Asclepieion de Voula.

The need for new ICU beds is more than imperative. The shielding of the system will be made with donations from individuals and institutions. By mid-October, there will be 50 beds in Sotiria, donated by the Greek parliament.

At the end of the month, the 12 beds of the Nikaia State Hospital, offered by Aggeliki Frangou and the Marinakis group, will be incorporated into the system, while at the end of the year 155 ICU beds and another 19 MAF will be delivered to various hospitals, offered by the Foundation Stavros Niarchos. . The units will have doctors and nurses who will be hired or transferred from other hospitals.
