The estimate that the vaccination of the population will be completed in June 2021 was expressed by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, Marios Themistokleous.
Speaking to ERT, Mr. Themistokleous urged citizens to get vaccinated and said: “We believe that within the next six months we will have managed to vaccinate the entire population.”
As he said, “the vaccine is safe, it saves lives, it is the most important weapon to get back to normal.”
The first batches
Regarding the schedule, he announced that whatever vaccine is approved, in two days it will be in our country. “The first refrigerators for the maintenance of vaccines are already here, while the rest will arrive within the next week,” he added.
Mr Themistokleous explained that the refrigerators will be placed in the central areas of the country and from there the vaccines will be distributed to the vaccination centers.
Asked about this, he noted that the vaccination will be administered even to residents of the most remote areas of the mainland and the island of Greece.
Planning
However, the government’s preparations for vaccination are in full swing, which will begin as soon as the competent European authorities give their approval, a decision expected by the end of December.
Government spokesman Stelios Petsas reiterated that “vaccination will be voluntary and free,” adding that “there will be an effort and a campaign to convince our fellow citizens of its safety and efficacy.”
He stressed that 1,018 vaccination centers are already being created throughout Greece so that vaccination can begin after the first reception. So, according to the first estimate, around 2,117,440 citizens will be able to get vaccinated every month.
Mr. Petsas added that “even if more vaccines arrive, in the same month, there may be, if necessary, further development of the plan for the creation of additional vaccination centers.”
