The details of the funeral in the town of Mouriki in Thebes, which was attended by 200 people and was a source of transmission of the corona virus, are shocking.

A 63-year-old woman who tested positive for coronavirus “broke” her quarantine and attended the funeral of a relative with a fever in the town of Mouriki in Thebes. The 63-year-old is now being treated at the NIMTS hospital, while four EODY mobile health teams will be in the area today for sampling tests.

Civil Protection has already appealed to the inhabitants of certain towns to stay at home.

The woman lost her brother last Friday and her funeral took place in her hometown on Sunday. She herself showed symptoms but attended the funeral. A few days later, her fever rose a lot, so her hospitalization was deemed necessary. “Even the daughters of the deceased did not attend the funeral. “Why did you come?” A neighbor of the area asked “Thema”, clarifying that no security and protection measures were observed for the new coronavirus.

As the mayor of Chalkida told MEGA “30 people from Loukissia had attended the funeral.” For his part, the mayor of Thebes said that “the deceased’s sister is positive while her husband was also positive.”

According to the president of the Mouriki community, Takis Petrou, the funeral was attended by more than 200 people while no protective measures were observed. As Mr. Petrou said, “yesterday the lieutenant governor notified us that he was coming with a ladder, that there were cases of coronavirus and that they were actually relatives of the deceased. “We don’t know exactly how many people are positive.”

Evia Regional Deputy Governor George Kelaiditis spoke on the “Society Hour MEGA” program about the situation in the region.

According to Mr. Kelaiditis, the measures were taken with caution without any confirmed cases.

As he characteristically said, at the end of the day we will have a better idea of whether the virus has “walked” the wider area.

Those who came into contact with the positive cases have been notified to remain in their homes, however all residents of the area have been advised to remain in quarantine.

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection has made a strong recommendation for self-protection measures against the crown in the settlements of the Municipality of Tebas and the Municipality of Chalkida, while EODY will track about 1,200 contacts.

The strong recommendation refers to the inhabitants of the following settlements in the municipality of Thebes, Boeotia and the municipality of Chalkida, Evia:

● Mouriki, Platanakia, Ypato and Loutoufi from the municipality of Tebas of the Regional Unit of Viotia and
● Loukissia from the municipality of Chalkida of the Evia Regional Unit, for the faithful compliance with the following self-protection measures:

-Stay inside the houses and avoid any unnecessary movement.
-Use of mask in all areas, interior and exterior.
– Absences of students in any school unit of all levels and
– Failure to relocate public and private sector workers from these settlements to work, in order to avoid the risk of dispersion and protect other workers.

Today, four EODY Mobile Health Teams will be in these settlements, in the local Municipal Warehouses (Mouriki-Platanakia, Ypato, Loutoufi and Loukissia), to carry out sample controls.

The above strong recommendation is valid until the completion of the control process in the mentioned areas, when a new announcement will be issued.
