An alarming growth trend continues to be recorded during the course of the pandemic in our country, with experts highlighting that there is a clear trend to exceed 300 cases per 24 hours.
Epidemiologists stress that the pandemic situation remains critical and unsustainable.
The concern and concern of infectious disease specialists now refers to the large number of cases registered in the center of Athens, but also to the increase in intubated patients who reached 71.
At the same time, the voices of scientists suggesting a short-term closure in Attica are increasing, while the Undersecretary of Civil Protection did not rule out the possibility of returning SMS to the elderly.
The epidemiological picture that Attica presents at the moment is particularly worrying, but controlled, as the competent authorities are quick to point out. In this context, the voices of epidemiologists in favor of local confinement in the Basin, which is also the area where most cases are identified, have been increasing in recent days.
However, the government’s message is that the imposition of a blockade is the last resort. “If the measures are followed by everyone, if our recommendations are accepted and respected, especially by the elderly, I think we are far from any confinement,” said during today’s briefing on the evolution of the pandemic, the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection , Nikos. Χαρδαλιάς.
“The best block is the implementation of the measures by all of us universally,” he emphatically added.
For his part, the associate professor of the EKPA School of Medicine and member of the Expert Committee of the Ministry of Health, Gikas Majorkinis, pointed out that the confinement “we know is very effective, but it is always the last resort.” And we have many steps we can take to get to this point. We are far enough away to get to this point. “
The new measures
New measures for Ática were announced by the Vice Minister of Civil Protection, Nikos Hardalias, after the “explosion” of the cases in the Basin
As he said, the Attica region is between moderate and high risk, with three cases per 100,000 inhabitants per day. The situation, he said, is constantly increasing, so we must act quickly. “We are in orange, do not go in red,” he said.
Thus, from Monday, September 21 to October 4, the following measures will be applied:
– A maximum of 9 people for indoor and outdoor meetings (excluding areas where special distance measures apply, such as health shops)
– Indoor and outdoor concerts are suspended and projections in indoor cinemas are suspended
– A maximum of 20 people at weddings, funerals and baptisms
– Restrict the movement of people over 65 years of age to what is absolutely necessary and avoid contact with people other than their immediate family environment and avoid travel by public transport.
– For Attica, the residence of asymptomatic positive cases belonging to vulnerable population groups is also decided – for example. immigrants- in quarantine hotels
– The following measures are taken to protect the health of workers:
1. Mandatory telecommuting for public and private sector employees who perform office work or work that can be done remotely. Commute to and from work in three waves for the public sector: at 7, 8 and 9 in the morning.
2. Introduce flexibility in the arrival and departure of private sector workers in four waves. Within two hours from the start and end of the working day.
3. Scan checks of employers and employees who do not comply with the protection measures in the workplace. That is, the mandatory use of a mask.
4. Extensive checks with rapid EODY testing at workplaces and meetings in distressed areas of Attica and on public and private sector services deemed necessary for the continuous and smooth running of the state and economy – for example. schools, public transport and especially hospitals.
