The Minister of Education, Niki Kerameos, revealed to Mega what the long-awaited opening of schools will depend on.
In the show “MEGA Weekend” the Minister of Education Niki Kerameos spoke referring to the 200 euro vouchers for the purchase of a computer or tablet and the changes in Universities and Panhellenics and revealing what will happen and what will depend on the long-awaited opening of schools.
Specifically, Ms. Kerameos referred to the effort of five ministries co-responsible for the 200 euro Voucher that will be delivered to 560,000 students, students from 4 to 24 years old and which will refer to the purchase of a computer or tablet for e-learning.
This is an amount of 112 million euros that will be allocated with the aim of “taking advantage of the heritage of distance education and the enormous digital leap that has occurred”. In the next period, detailed instructions will be given on exactly how the platform will work and how the beneficiaries will acquire the specific equipment from the stores.
He referred to the changes that are being promoted in terms of the institution of a minimum admission base by each university institution. As he pointed out, among other things, the admission cases of students with a score of 0.6 out of 20 do not honor the Greek Public University and the state must improve the general level of studies.
The proposal that has been put into public debate is to have a minimum admission base, said Mrs. Kerameos, clarifying that the base will not be horizontal and will be different for each university department. “It is expected that each university department will base its percentage on the average performance of all candidates in the specific scientific field,” he said. Thus, “for the first time, universities will have the opportunity to define the academic profile they want.”
The intention is that the minimum import base is valid from the summer.
There is also another change in the debate: having a limit on the choices that candidates can make in computer science.
The measure is under discussion and Ms Kerameos said the options can be set at around 15. The goal is to “encourage children to make conscious decisions and attend the classes of those who really want to study there.” This will guarantee places for students who want to go to specific departments.
He also pointed out that the pre-electoral commitment of controlled admission to universities is advancing, an issue in which the rectors are also positive. Also in terms of campus security, “the creation of a protection group of university institutions to end decades of pathogenesis” and the academic environment to become safer.
When asked about the issue of the Panhellenic Games and if there is an intention to reduce it, he stressed that when students go back to schools and lifelong learning, schools should “see how the subject has progressed and can see if there is any adjustment to any aspect of the educational process “.
Adjustments, in addition to the material, may be needed in such matters as how students will be assessed, how the four months will be conducted, and other aspects of the educational process.
“Our planning and wish is for the schools to open on January 8,” concluded Ms. Kerameos, adding that approximately a week before this date, experts will be asked to indicate their recommendation based on the latest epidemiological data. “We will consult the experts and the decisions will be made.”
“Let’s follow the measures to give the green light to the experts as soon as possible,” he concluded.
