Old forgotten vinyl records, which once accompanied people on various musical paths, take on a “second life” in Katerini.
The administration of the municipality created the first Wine Bar in the country, where through the records, the youngest have the opportunity to learn about the evolution of music and the old to “travel” to moments in the past, when they listened to their favorite songs by inserting the needle. on vinyl records on gramophones and pickups.
The idea of the first Vinoteca “was born” some time ago, when employees of the Cleaning Service of the Municipality of Katerini, in the context of the organization of warehouses, found in black bags about 2,500 vinyl records, part of the collection of the municipal radio of the city. Discs with Greek and foreign music were used for years to broadcast the radio program, but the arrival of the CDs “disappeared” overnight and took them to the warehouse, where they remained for the last thirty years.
The Katerini municipality administration decided to use them immediately. He took them to the municipal library and after cleaning them, he kept them on special shelves in the Reading Room. There, they were recorded and arranged alphabetically and chronologically, while a retro truck was purchased so that visitors could place the needle on the vinyl and listen to their favorite song, which “turns” them into moments. of his adolescence and youth.
After this development, another pleasant news followed, as he came into contact with the mayor of Katerini, Costas Koukodimos, and his associates, a retired Navy admiral who lives permanently in Athens. Spyridon Pervainas had found out the location of the first 2,500 records and also wanted to donate his own very rare collection.
This collection was started by Mr. Pervainas’s father, who enriched and preserved it and currently has 2,000 collectible vinyl records and audio players, including an old 1950’s pickup truck. The mayor shipped them immediately. his associates in Athens and transferred the collection to Katerini. “This is all a treasure. What we want to make the most of,” Mayor Mr. Koukodimos told the Athens / Macedonia News Agency, which has already contacted the Ministry of Culture submitting a request from the municipality to create a museum in the town of Katerini.
In the spring of 2021 the Cultural Hall of Music is delivered and the municipal authority thinks of using a space where visitors can learn about the history of music and vinyl. At this time, and after the donation of Mr. Pervainas, it is in the cataloging process. The aim is to create an open catalog, which will be visited electronically by those interested and will know if the album they want is in the collection of the municipality of Katerini.
Due to all of the above, several more collectors have contacted the municipality of Katerini, wishing to offer vinyl records, which they have kept in good condition all these years. A doctor contacted the mayor and informed him that he has 500 Greek and foreign music records that he wishes to donate, while Mr. Koukodimos himself has a considerable number of personal records, as his brother was a music lover. and vinyl.
