European mobilization for Lesbos: sending humanitarian aid

The European Civil Protection Mechanism has been activated by what is happening in Lesbos in recent days, by order of Nikos Hardalias and six countries have already responded.

The Civil Protection announcement says:

“By order of the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection and Crisis Management, Nikos Hardalia, after continuous communication with the European Commission and the Director General of the competent DG ECHO, Ms Paraskevi Michou, as well as in constant coordination with the Permanent Representation of Greece before the EU, the Ministry of Civil Protection activated the European Civil Protection Mechanism yesterday September 12. The objective of the activation is to provide humanitarian aid to our country, after the situation that has been created in Moria, Lesbos, after the destruction of part of the housing structure for asylum seekers and immigrants.

Which countries responded to “SOS”

In this context, according to the Austrian Secretary General for Civil Protection, the Germany, he Denmark, he Finland, he Poland and the Sweden, which have already offered a significant amount of humanitarian aid to Greece, while a positive response is expected from other Member States. It is also noted that Switzerland also offered bilateral assistance to the Greek authorities on a bilateral basis.

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection is in permanent contact with the Emergency Response Coordination Center (ERCC) of the European Commission for optimal coordination of mission arrivals.

GGPP thanks the European Commission, as well as the Member States, for their prompt response and practical solidarity in handling the situation in Moria, Lesbos.

Mitarakis: The entry of immigrants into the new Kara Tepe camp continues without problems

At the same time, the Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Notis Mitarakis, stated that “the entry of asylum seekers to the new camp continues without problems, in which both the health units and the asylum services are fully operational”.

Mr Mitarakis said, among other things, that he continues to supply food and water, as well as the provision of health services to all asylum seekers “both those within the camp and those who, unfortunately, are outside the”.
