The exploratory talks will continue where they left off, Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said, adding that there will be two other parallel negotiation processes, one at the political level and the other at the military level.

According to the Anadolu news agency, in a statement to Turkish journalists, Ibrahim Kalin said that the exploratory talks are a mechanism established in 2002 to specifically discuss the continental shelf, economic zone and airspace in the Aegean and continued until 2016. He added that the 61st round of exploratory negotiations will continue from where it left off. “Whatever the issues, whatever the issues were discussed, they will continue to be discussed today,” he said.

He added that in these exploratory negotiations there will be two other important negotiation processes, one at the political level and the other at the military level for confidence-building measures.

Therefore, there will be three lines of negotiation. “We hope to start the process, we wait and plan,” he said, adding that the political negotiations to be held at the level of foreign ministers will discuss issues from the economy to tourism, border security issues for minorities.

In the military talks there will be a structure in which a joint working mechanism can be created in the Aegean between Greek and Turkish soldiers at sea, air and borders. As he said, a series of contacts have been made in this regard and this week meetings have been held in NATO in this context.

According to KYPE, Ibrahim Kalin said the date of the exploratory talks has not yet been clarified.

It is very important that the Turkish president give space for diplomacy, providing a second chance for negotiations, he said.

Speaking at the EU Summit, Ibrahim Kalin said that they expected an update on the customs union, an update on the immigration agreement and visa liberalization for Turkish citizens.
