Journalist Costas Batis dies

Former basketball player and basketball editor Costas Batis died Saturday night at the age of just 61. Costas Batis had been a sportsman for Milonas, Panathinaikos and Esperos, while he was also an international. When he retired from active action he became a match commentator.

Costas Batis, worked as a sports editor with a presence in magazines, newspapers and television shows, writing and speaking about the “orange goddess”. Costas Batis was also a commentator, but also a sportscaster for basketball games.

Costas Batis was born on January 8, 1959. He began his career as a basketball player, honoring the Panathinaikos jersey for 8 years (1974-1982) and became 4-time champion of Greece (1975, 1977, 1980, 1982) while who also won 2 Greek Cups. (1979, 1982). With the Panathinaikos team, he played the 8 of the Champions Cup 3 times (1978, 1980, 1981).

He participated in the national teams of children and adolescents with a remarkable harvest of points (8.2 points and 8 points respectively). With the National Children’s Team he won the silver medal in the 1975 Children’s Eurobasket.

After his athletic career, Costas Batis became involved in sports journalism.
