Hours of agony for the citizens of East Corinth.
Cyclone Ianos hit the Loutra Oraias Eleni and Almyri area with force, causing flooding.
Dozens of calls have been made to the fire department to pump water.
Meanwhile, by decision of the Police, the Istmo – Epidauro national highway, from kilometer 3 to 34, has been closed for precautionary reasons.
Hard night
Last night the neighbors were dramatic, as firefighters knocked on their doors to alert them, while sirens sounded.
Basements, backyards, and stores were flooded by the disaster. According to local media, at least 20 homes have been flooded.
The rain started at 3 a.m. and created two streams of water that stopped nowhere as the larger area was burned.
As reported to the Athens-Macedonia News Agency, the deputy governor of Corinth, Anastasios Giolis, “there are only problems in the coastal area of Kechria” and explained: “Due to the rain, the mountain that is two kilometers away” has “released” water in the coastal area of Loutra de Oraia Eleni, as a result of which we have some problems with the floods, while stones have fallen on the road of Epidaurus Avenue.
“Currently”, according to the deputy governor, “fire brigades are pumping water, while other teams in the Peloponnese region are cleaning the streets.”
Also, Anastasios Giolis told APE – BPE that “we had been in charge, as a region of the Peloponnese, to remove dozens of machines since last Thursday morning, to clean streams, ditches and wells”.
