The catastrophes in Ithaca are great, due to the bad weather “Ianos”, which has affected much of the country in the last 24 hours.

Dozens of boats and sailboats have sunk and many shops have been badly damaged. A sailboat anchored under the Swiss flag was blown away by strong winds and crashed into a rocky shoreline in the Schinos sea area, east of Ithaca.

The two occupants of the ship disembarked and are in good health. Strong 8 Beaufort winds were blowing in the sea area.

In fact, due to severe bad weather, the island was without electricity or telecommunications for two twenty-four hours. HEDNO’s reinforced crews since yesterday afternoon have re-electrified various areas from Ithaca to Vathi and continue the work feverishly.

The Deputy Minister of Civil Protection and Crisis Management, Nikos Hardalias, is on the island today, while a meeting will be held at the Ithaca City Council with the participation of the mayor, Dionysis Stanitsa. Subsequently, Nikos Hardalias will travel to Zakynthos, where a meeting will be held (11:00 am) at the headquarters of the Regional Unit, with the participation of the Mayor, Nikitas Aretakis.
