Closed will be retail stores in Sunday, November 1 due to the pandemic.
The General Secretariat for Trade and Consumer Protection of the Ministry of Development and Investments, informs the consumer public and companies that, due to the emergency measures taken to attend and limit the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus, next Sunday, November 1, despite the provisions of articles 15 and 16 of Law 4177/2013 (173 ‘A), all its stores in the country will remain closed.
It is recalled that the mid-autumn discounts will begin on November 2 (as stores will be closed on Sunday) and will end on November 15, 2020.
The Union of Consumer Workers of Greece states in its announcement that in the current difficult situation, consumers who opt for this period for their purchases with physical presence in stores, must be very careful and strictly follow the instructions of EODY (https: / /eody.gov.gr/neos-koronaios-covid-19/) especially with regard to the use of a mask inside the stores, as well as the observance of the allowed number of people present in the store.
In addition to the following tips, consumers should, in order to better inform and defend their rights, but also their rights in general, be informed of the content of the current legislation on discounts and offers, as recently codified , is published on the website of Ε.Ε.Κ.Ε. and it is summarized on the one hand in Law 4177/2013 “Regulations for the regulation of the market of products and provision of services and other provisions” (see articles 15, 21, 22 and 23) and on the other hand in the “Code of Ethics for the protection of consumers in offers, discounts and promotions ”, which was established by Ministerial Decision 568/2014 (Government Gazette B 07/31/2014).
For responsible markets, the association reminds us to pay attention to the following:
* We limit our needs and always plan the purchases that we are going to make avoiding reckless expenses
* We do not stop doing market studies and we control not only the prices but also the quality of the products
* We are informed about the origin and quality of the products. The seller must provide the consumer with any information related to the product in accordance with article 1 of law 2251/94 before the latter makes a purchase.
* We avoid shopping from street vendors both to avoid buying unsafe and uncertified products and to crack down on smuggling and reduce unemployment.
* We are informed about the details and terms of our transaction when we purchase products in installments.
* Before making purchases with a credit card, we are always informed about the terms and conditions of the specific market.
* The stores inform us about the policy they follow regarding defective products but also returns
* There should be no confusion between discounts and offers. Discounts are for seasonal products while sales, where the discount is very high, are usually for obsolete items. Caution! The consumer should always check if the product belongs to the current season or to a previous one, since many times it has been observed the phenomenon that stores put obsolete products at a discount price at the same discount price as the products of the current season.
* In case of offers, there must be a sign indicating that offers are being made. When making the offers, the old and new discounted price of the products must be clearly indicated and optionally the percentage of the discount in the visible points of the store and definitely in the points where the products offered are sold. In any case, it is not allowed to offer articles whose quantity exceeds fifty (50%) of the total articles available in the store. We remind you that for clothing and footwear, the above price is defined as the price at which the product was sold for a period of at least one month immediately prior to its reduction.
* Products must have the original price and the sale price (not the discount rate). Caution! Offers often say no changes are made, so if you repent, you don’t have a chance to change.
* Pay special attention to stores that advertise high discount rates on one or some of their items. This does not mean that the other types of stores are cheaper than similar types of other stores.
* STOCK or OUTLET stores are obliged to indicate on the plates the previous sale price, eliminated and the new reduced sale price. During the discount period, these stores are required to display all eliminated intermediate prices and, in bold, the new reduced sale price on the plates.
* We do not stop asking for the receipt of the products we have purchased. In case the product is defective and we want to return or exchange it, proof is required. Nor should we forget to ask the store to stamp the back of the receipt.
Finally, it is noted that buyers can contact the Hellenic Association of Consumer Workers, sending questions, reports or complaints.
