THE Hellenic Pulmonary Society wrote and presents specific instructions both for the care of the patient at home after discharge from the hospital and for the confirmed or suspected patient with COVID-19 person.

The EIA guidelines indicate that patients with symptoms consistent with COVID-19 (fever, cough, headache, pharyngitis, dyspnea, odor, taste, fatigue, myalgia, diarrhea, runny nose / congestion, chest screening test (PCR ) and pending the result, they should isolate themselves from other members of their family, in accordance with the relevant EODY instructions.

It is also recommended to repeat the PCR test (within 1-2 days) especially when there is a strong clinical-epidemiological suspicion or risk of serious disease in people close to the patient. The key points for the safe management of patients are age, persistence of symptoms, existence of concomitant diseases as well as the drop in oxygen saturation.

It is considered necessary to supply an oximeter for periodic saturation measurements, as well as daily communication with the pulmonologist.

Physicians who support COVID-19 patients at home must take all personal protection measures defined by EODY, they must not prescribe any specific treatment for COVID-19 pneumonia, but aim to relieve symptoms, recommend adequate rest, adequate nutrition and hydration, or taking antipyretics and prophylactic antibiotics are not recommended unless there is a clinical suspicion of bacterial infection.
