The infectious disease specialist committee reportedly gave a “green light” for the opening of primary schools, kindergartens and kindergartens on January 11.
The committee mostly stuck to the same decision it had made at the pre-holiday meeting, namely the opening of only kindergartens and elementary schools on January 11 under strict measures.
On the contrary, from the outset, the government’s intention was to open ranks at all levels, having as a “weapon” testing.
However, it seems that experts still do not agree with this decision, as they are waiting to first see the mark that the festivities left on the epidemic. For this reason, after all, the decisions for older students in a week.
Especially with regard to the return of the Lyceum-Gymnasium students to their desks, the experts will assess the epidemiological situation as of next week and will judge when they will give the green light.
The committee even presented a specific plan for the opening of schools, which will be carried out by conducting a quick test and differentiating the hours to start and complete the courses.
The plan for returning older students (secondary) to schools:
The experts gave the green light for the return of the students to school, first of the primary students and then the rest if very strict measures are observed such as:
- Carrying out quick tests to students and teachers
- Gradual arrival and departure times of students, in order to avoid overcrowding of parents outside the schools
According to information, infectious disease specialists mentioned during the teleconference that the problem is not the children in primary schools and kindergartens, but the overcrowding caused by parents when they go and when they receive them.
For her part, Ms. Kerameos suggested a step-by-step arrival and departure schedule, in order to solve this problem.
As for the tests, they will be carried out by special units of the Ministry of Health and they will inform parents, since the process will be voluntary.
Experts’ concern even about the 11/1 opening.
Demosthenes Sarigiannis, professor of environmental engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, spoke yesterday about the evolution of the coronavirus pandemic in our country, the important problems facing the UCI, but also about the opening of schools.
The teacher strongly expressed his concern about the government’s plan to open schools on November 1, through OPEN television, and emphasized that such a measure is considered unsafe.
“It is difficult for schools to open on January 11, of course. The opening and closing of schools should have taken place in October. We would be better now. We have to wait for the Christmas data on Tuesday Wednesday.” We will have enough data on Thursday to make a prediction for the New Year’s picture too, “he characteristically said.
Regarding the de-escalation of ICUs, he highlighted: “In the cases, the de-escalation has also begun to decrease. Which means that it will also be the most delusional time of the year. Well, the government announced new measures. we let it pass, we would have a reversal and we cannot allow this to happen in the ICU. Rather, they acted with caution. They did well and took action.
Schools must be opened safely
“All the members of the committee of the Ministry of Health are positive in the opening of schools, especially for primary schools, but they postponed the final decision for this week so that they have the latest data,” Professor Charalambos Gogos said yesterday.
Mr. Gogos underscored that increased restrictive measures will significantly help offset any negative impacts of the holidays. However, he stressed that in our country the conformity of the people was quite good, we did not see what was happening in other European countries.
The teacher pointed out that no one adopts the accordion tactic (open activities – closed). He pointed out that while we move towards normality, measures must be observed to reach 70% of the vaccination in the population and build a wall of immunity.
For his part, the president of the Hellenic Infection Society and member of the Expert Committee, Panagiotis Gargalianos, stated that everyone wants to open schools, but open safely.
He explained that the problem of the closure of activities is not created by experts from the Ministry of Health, but by rioters, who often mention the “crown parties.”
