The 30-year-old Greek-Iraqi, considered the main defendant in the assassination attempt against the policeman in Nea Smyrni, is being taken to prison after apologizing to the investigator for the crime of attempted murder. The 30-year-old, also known as an Indian, was sentenced to temporary detention with the consent of an investigator and a prosecutor.
On the contrary, the other six defendants were released under restrictive conditions. The restrictive conditions of being prohibited from leaving the country, appearing at a police station, and not participating in demonstrations were imposed on a case-by-case basis.
Denial of charge
In his apology, the 30-year-old denied the attempted murder charge and argued to the investigator that he was not even in Nea Smyrni at the time of the events. However, he was not as convinced as he seemed by the result.
As he testified, he was in an area of West Attica, emphasizing that specific people can confirm his presence there. “Around 6:30 pm I met three of my friends in a park in Elefsina, where I stayed until 7:20 pm (time of the attack on the police officer), when I left by bus for Magoula, as confirmed by all present.” Among other things, the 30-year-old directed the questioner to add: “Around 7:40 p.m. I got off the bus and went to Magoula Square, where I met a relative and two of his friends. We were there until 21:00. “All three confirm my presence.”
At the same time, the defendant refuted the initial testimony (prior to the investigation) of his brother-in-law, who had “shown” him as the person who threw the unfortunate policeman under his motorcycle. However, later, during his testimony before the interrogator, said witness stated that he saw the 30-year-old inside the “boogie” and did not hit the policeman and throw him under his motorcycle.
Custody
Earlier, one of the defendants in the assassination attempt, which is related to the attack on the policeman, had taken the road to prison immediately after his apology. Specifically, the defendant who was sentenced to provisional imprisonment with the consent of an investigator and a prosecutor is a 23-year-old man.
On the contrary, his other co-defendants were released with the imposition of restrictive conditions. It is about a 22-year-old young man, who was released with the imposition of restrictive conditions of appearing 3 times a month at a police station, a ban on leaving the country and a financial guarantee of 1,000 euros.
It should be noted that the 22-year-old was prosecuted for attempted murder, a crime related to the savage assault on a police officer. However, during the interrogation, the defendant was called to apologize for the other crimes related to explosives, while he was not involved in the attack on the police officer. According to the lawyer of the 22-year-old, Annie Paparoussou, the phones of the two young people have been monitored since last January by order of the prosecution for reasons of public safety and based on this material a case was filed against them. . According to Ms Paparousou, these conversations have not been included in the record to this day.
In addition, seven minors were charged with the events in Nea Smyrni, who apologized to a juvenile interrogator and were released on the condition that they were supervised by a social worker.
The apologies of the defendants in this case will continue today Sunday.
