The San Sava shrine in Belgrade has been turned into a sanitary bomb in recent hours, as evidenced by the images that are circulating. The believers, literally one on top of the other, some of whom are wearing masks, came to the scene to say goodbye for the last time to the Serbian patriarch Ireneos, who died on Friday (11/20) due to complications from the coronavirus and today is exposed to the popular pilgrimage .
Despite the fact that the authorities had called on all who were to come to observe all the security measures, apparently no one followed the advice. The images that circulate on the Internet are scary. Crowd of believers, rushing to kiss him deceased high priest, “forgetting” the fact that he fell asleep from complications from the coronavirus.
The funeral procession will take place tomorrow at 9:00 am in the church of Agios Savvas, while the body will be deposited in a crypt inside the church that was specially built for the burial of the Serbian high priests. Ireneos will be the first Patriarch to be buried in the crypt of the church of Agios Savvas.
It is noted that Patriarch Ireneos tested positive for the Sars Cov-2 virus on November 4 and was admitted to a military hospital in Belgrade the same day. His health began to deteriorate rapidly on November 18 and ended two days later.
It is recalled that at the funeral of the Metropolitan of Montenegro Amfilochiou, who died at the end of October, the Patriarch of Serbia Ireneos had officiated.
The Blessed One was found among thousands of believers and hierarchs near the coffin without any protection. A few days later, he fell ill to a tragic end on Friday morning.
Both leaders had underestimated the threat of a pandemic. After the funeral of the Metropolitan of Montenegro and the illness of the Patriarch of Serbia, Serbian priests began to ask their parishioners to take the virus seriously. In Serbia in recent days, cases of coronavirus have been launched and every day from 5 to 6,000 infections are confirmed.
