With the revelation of her rape, Sofia Bekatorou hit the start button of the Greek #metoo. A torrent of revelations, a multitude of complaints, with people known and loved in theater and on television at the center. In recent days, journalist Aleko Marcello has made public another complaint about a well-known colleague.
Alekos Markellos brought the accusation of attempted rape of a journalist by a well-known journalist and presenter, whom he even names in his publications.
He is a well-known and prominent journalist, with a long career in the written and electronic press, with a presence on television and radio.
How the complaint came to light
While the hashtag #eimasteoloimazi, the Greek #metoo, as they call it, was filled with publications, on the one hand, people praising all those women and men who found the courage to denounce the sexual harassment and abuse they had suffered for their courage and On the other hand, of the people telling their stories with all the horrible things they had faced, a journalist’s post caused a sensation. The motive of Aleko Marcello, who transmitted a report from a journalist about a known colleague.
Specifically, the journalist and ERT correspondent in Australia, Alekos Markellos, in his post spoke of “attempted rape by force against an unsuspecting woman and mother of minors”, adding that it is the most serious case so far, after the 11 years of Olympian Sofia. -old sportsman sailing.
According to Alekos Markellos, the journalist is accused of attempted rape, while, according to points, many colleagues accuse him of persistent sexist behavior, sexually motivated racism, sexual blackmail, with obscene messages on mobile phones, in half.
Aleko Markellos’ first post:
“When he came back from the kitchen with the glass in his hand, he pushed me and attacked me, saying that he would also take what ‘others take’. We fought, he started screaming, my children slept in the next room. I killed him easily that night. “The power I found to beat him out of the house still amazes me.”
The chilling description of the attack on the unsuspecting victim by the well-known Pan-Hellenic television host (ss: mention the journalist’s name) speaks for itself.
My complaint was sent by email and from the moment I received it and confirmed the sender’s details, I have the obligation to make it public.
Of course, as I must, I will send the complaint to the competent Prosecutor’s Office, which is investigating -thanks, multiplied- similar complaints after the beginning made -in his honor- by Mrs. Sofia Bekatorou.
Silence is complicity.
Aleko Markellos’ second post:
“I went to the police, described everything and said the names of the colleagues who wanted to testify on my behalf.
He hid, to pass the car. Reasonable.
His wife found out and called me to ask me to drop the lawsuit, because they have a son.
I reminded him that I have too, and in fact more than one. I told him that I owed my children not to withdraw the lawsuit. “
Yesterday I named the television host here (ss .: mention the name of the journalist) as a person accused of attempted rape using force against a (then) fellow journalist.
He escaped because he physically fought.
I repeat, there are reasons:
-An attempted rape with force against an unsuspecting woman and mother of minors who were in the same area!
After Bekatorou’s complaint and the case of the 11-year-old boy, it is clearly the heaviest and MOST SERIOUS personal complaint, of a criminal nature, of the dozens more that have seen the light.
And he is a very prominent person on the front line of the media with access to the homes of all Greek families!
And it is very certain that the prosecution’s investigation will be treated as serious.
But, in mainstream media they have “room” – and do well – for complaints of even simple verbal violence, tsimoudia.
Not impressed?
The one I know (and they know I know) doesn’t impress me.
I knew it beforehand, of course.
In this case, the veil of Silence was broken.
And I am glad that the announcements of our Association, ESIEA, which supports and urges the victims of such barbaric attacks to come out and speak up, thus give me their full support in my attempt to contribute, with the consent of the victim, to the shocking disclosures.
Other colleagues who know should also speak.
They are many and specific and I hope they stand firm with determined dignity, as many have already done and I thank them.
This case has branches that touch the deep chords of a long-standing background, aspects of which, I assure you, for those who are just unaware, are interesting surprises.
And they go high.
It won’t be “boring” at all.
And those who trust my sincere intentions in this endeavor (where the conventional media expose their complicity through silence), whenever they want or make a notification.
Everyone understands that the form of advertising that I try, by name, is based on the impossibility of silence and the subversive power of Social Networks.
(To be continue).
Aleko Markellos’ third post:
“Even with a delay, many media outlets honored his role and referred to the complaint I made.
Be good companions.
I owe all of you, one by one, who supported the effort to “break the abscess” of silence on sexual violence, a warm thank you from the staff.
So I have to be more detailed about the “case (ss: Mention the name of the journalist)”.
And first, a personal message for him, you will understand why:
-Ke (ss: mention the name of the journalist), your usual tactic is to call (like all day yesterday) the editors-in-chief, directors and editors and ask them to “download the publications”, telling them vulgar lies -in this case for me, who has just done my job-, as you understood, fell into the void.
(In another season you had a better score, but it happened…).
Not only did you fail, but my colleagues informed me that you called them laughing.
You see, in the newsroom, they know me, among us.
And trust me, how we share the sweat of the sidewalk (journalism is called journalism) with competition but also with mutual ethics in our relationships.
These dynamics are “incandescent steel”, not through factoring, partisan coercion, looting, public relations and parastatal politics, that is, colleagues did not cross their own field and became a former “Director of News “illiterate from ERT (and all the other empty public funds that Roussopoulos gave you to. Something is missing on my list).
Here I inform you that they have been denounced and sued for attempted rape by a former journalist (a person I did not know until recently, for those who thought otherwise …).
So here I add:
-Not only accuses the complainant of these criminal and heinous acts:
– Accused by many colleagues of constant sexist behavior, sexually motivated racism, sexual blackmail, obscene messages on mobile phones, misogyny.
For many cases of sexual harassment, both indirectly and immediately.
As a journalist, I have collected and continue to collect information.
It is impressive how many spoke, how many want to testify.
Even worse:
-When (from a message sent to a presenter, without knowing her contacts …) Roussopoulos was forced to let you go “at night”, the next day the universe “roared” because of your kick.
But “blood, water does not become”:
-Instead of Roussopoulos sending you into the funnel of shame, as if he covered it completely.
No wonder for them within the walls.
And he restored you, with places where the ladle of the public basket exceeded all limits of disgrace.
Rather than discredit him, as would be evident from the “leaders”, he became a wild card for two prime ministers, Kostakis Karamanlis and Antonis Samaras.
Yes.
The problem with you is not only sexist, it is also political.
And for me, it is not partisan.
Your cover-up has been epic in the past.
But he did not forget.
Stop calling my colleagues.
The pianist is not to blame for the rhythm he has chosen in his life.
Let’s not do it.
Because you did.
