Sporades without electricity – Schools closed in Magnesia and Larissa
Thousands of people in Magnesia are going through difficult times due to the severe weather that continues to sweep the area, after the roads in Pelion and Othri were closed, in the Sporades the electricity supply to the islands was cut and Volos was submerged in snow that exceeds 30 cm even in the center.
The biggest problem that has arisen refers to the interruption of the electricity supply in Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos since last night due to the fall of large trees in high voltage cables, in an area of South Pelion, which supply electricity to the Sporades , so all three islands have major problems. The islands remain without electricity for more than 12 hours.
Previously, there was other damage in the same area, which was repaired relatively quickly by HEDNO teams and concerned the electrification of Skiathos.
In mainland Magnesia the problems are mainly located in Pelion, where the snow has exceeded in many places and a meter and despite the continuous efforts of dozens of snow machines in many places the passability of the roads is impossible.
In the city of Volos, where the continuous snowfall exceeds 30 hours and continues even with reduced intensity, the height of the snow has created many problems in the normal life of the capital of Magnesia, where night-time snow machines cleared the main roads and aquifers that have been dumped and continue to dump seawater to keep roads tolerable and safe.
Schools of all levels are currently closed in the municipalities of Volos, Riga Ferrai, Zagora-Mouresi, South Pelion and Almyros, as well as in Skiathos by decision of the mayors due to snow. Nurseries are also closed in Volos.
It is recalled that by decision of the mayors of Larissa prefecture, all schools will be closed today throughout Larissa prefecture due to bad weather prevailing in the area.
