Crete expresses its intention not to “abstain” from the sanctification of the waters, on the day of Epiphany. priest, clarifying that it does not intend to obey the corresponding prohibition.
As Crete24 publishes in a letter of protest to the Prosecutor of the Court of First Instance of Chania and to the Director of Police of Chania, Father Dimitrios Kokolinakis states:
“Dear Prosecutor, Distinguished Director,
Passing through these holy days of the Twelve Days, I considered that it was my duty and sacred obligation to address this letter to you.
With the new completely unconstitutional proclamations of the Greek Government, it is imposed once again, the performance of rituals behind closed doors during all the following holy days, or the non-performance of the Great Sanctification of the outer waters.
With the above measures, the individual and constitutionally guaranteed rights of the Orthodox Christian faithful are again violated, and my purpose with this protest is to declare, personally and boldly, my opposition to this JMC, since through it we have abolished the Constitution by the organs of the State and, consequently, I am obliged by all means to oppose this abolition and the violation of the fundamental rights of Greek citizens (articles 3, 13, 25 and 120 of the Constitution), that of the Ecclesiastical , Holy Communion and the Great Sanctification.
I had the will, therefore, as priest of the Sacred Temple of St. Georgiou Katsifarianon of Chania, to send this letter, informing both the Prosecutor of the Court of First Instance of Chania and the Chief of Police of Chania, that I do not intend to obey “as people-Christians, as well as our own faith and God, and I should NOT refrain from the performance of Communions, Holy Communion and Great Sanctification, during these days of the Twelve Days, and not only that.
After this shameful, arbitrary and illegal conduct of the State itself, I considered it my duty to direct this letter of protest, notifying it at the same time to the Attorney General, but also making it public. Greek citizens, whether we now have a democratic state, with all that it entails for citizens’ rights, or it has been officially catalyzed.
After that, I wish you all a Happy and Blessed New Year with all my heart.
Chania, January 2, 2021
The petitioner
Fr Dimitrios Kokolinakis, Orthodox priest “.
