The Ministry of Transport announced today the measures that will come into effect from Monday, May 18 to June 15 in the area of coastal transport and maritime tourism.
These were agreed during the successive meetings held under the chairmanship of the Minister of Maritime Transport, Giannis Plakiotakis, in which the Secretary General of Public Health, Panagiotis Prezerakos, the Committee on Special Infectious Diseases and ministry officials participated.
In particular, the following was agreed:
A) Instructions for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 cases in passenger ferries and passenger vehicles that carry sea transport, as well as international ships under the Greek flag. The instructions will be applicable from 05-18-2020 to 06.15.2020 and refer mainly to:
1. Determine the maximum number of passenger passengers at 50% of the total number of passengers specified in the ship’s safety certificate, or 55% if cabins are available.
2. Thermal measurement and completion of a special health status questionnaire before boarding the ship and maintaining it with the care of the shipping company. The questionnaire will also be available on a special website.
3. Maintaining a distance of 1.5 meters during boarding, disembarking and in all areas of the ship.
4. The use of each cabin by one (1) person, unless it is a family (first degree relatives), so it can be up to 4 people or disabled with their companion.
5. The use of a mask (cloth recommended) by passengers and crew members.
6. The special arrangement of passengers in aerial seats (one occupied seat and one empty seat, adjacent, front and rear).
7. Thermometry and presentation of a special health declaration, before departure, for passengers of international ships on the Greek-Italian lines.
8. Inform passengers about the measures with a printed EODY brochure, as well as informational announcements and audio messages.
9. Special crew training.
10. The application of hygiene and personal protection regulations and the existence of antiseptic stations in various parts of the ship.
11. Cleaning and disinfection of ships.
12. Ventilation and air conditioning of ships.
13. The management of a suspicious incident (isolation in a special area, landing in the next port that has the potential necessary for its management, follow-up of contacts, etc.),
14. The rules of operation of the passenger service points (bars, restaurants, dining rooms),
B) Procedures for the mooring of recreational boats from abroad after the lifting of restrictive measures against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The instructions will be applicable from 15.05.2020 to 15.06.2020 and refer mainly to:
1. The possibility of entering private Greek yachts and commercial pleasure boats (except cruise ships) from overseas ports, marinas and shipyards if they are empty of passengers and under certain health conditions and with the permission of the competent authority.
2. Continuation of the prohibition of shipwrecks by foreign countries for which special restrictive measures still apply (eg Turkey).
3. Mandatory control (testing) of all crews and occupants, in a certified laboratory (at the expense of occupants).
4. The implementation of the guidelines of the National Health Organization on ships that remain in the long-distance mooring in ports during the COVID-19 pandemic.
5. The presentation of a declaration of maritime health.
6. Provide information to passengers about the rules and regulations for COVID-19 applicable at the port of use.
7. The management of a suspected or confirmed incident on board.
