The chaotic first debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden led many Americans to go to Google looking for a way to move to Canada.
The current US president and the Democratic candidate met for the first time in a debate prior to the November 3 US presidential election. It was a “confrontation” with insults from both sides, accusations, voices and two politicians who interrupt each other.
This image has made Americans think about going to Canada. Or at least, that’s what your Google searches show.
Searches for “how to apply for Canadian citizenship” have increased in the United States in recent hours. The same thing happened with the question “How do I move to Canada?”
About an hour after the start of the debate, searches of this type peaked in the United States, according to Google. But there was a second wave, in the early hours of the morning, after the end of the debate. Most of the searches were in Massachusetts, followed by Washington and Michigan.
However, according to The Guardian, this is not unheard of. Every election in the United States seems to make many Americans think about moving across the border.
The culmination of these searches, according to Google, came after George W. Bush’s electoral victory in November 2004. Looking at the last five years, the highest search engine traffic in Canada was recorded in November 2016, after Donald Trump’s victory.
