The business plan for the decompression of the NSS and the optimal management of the waves continues with careful “surgical” movements by the officials of the Ministry of Health and EKAB of patients flooding hospitals in the basin.

At the extraordinary business meeting that ended on Saturday afternoon at the EKAB, it was decided to provide another 70 ICU beds for the needs of the epidemic that will gradually take place in the coming days. Another 12 ICU beds will be granted for the treatment of patients with coronavirus infection from Evangelismos, 9 from Agia Olga, 14 from the Red Cross and KAT, as well as Attikon and Tzanio. In total, the ICU beds available for Covid-19 patients in Attica will reach 340.

Next to, and exceptionally this weekend Covid-19 patients will be discharged from hospitals in order to vacate beds and save valuable time. It should be noted that discharges as an administrative procedure in hospitals are not made on Saturdays and Sundays but only on working days. According to those responsible, both the secretary general of health services and the head of the EKAB, Mr. Nikos Papaefstathiou, it is considered a fact that discharges will be based on all medical protocols and their completion will simply be shortened in time.

“We are doing everything we can to take full advantage of the forces of the NSS, knowing from the scientists that a burden is expected on hospitals and more patients. The granting of the 70 additional beds will give encouragement to the UCI. And it is understood that those patients with diseases other than Covid-19 who need ICU will be treated with EKAB in the ICUs of private clinics within the framework of the corresponding agreement that we have made “. says to protothema.gr the secretary general of health services, Mr. Giannis Kotsiopoulos.
