The thriller had a happy ending for the three workers who were trapped in the waters of the Xiria stream, in Almyros, Volos, on Friday afternoon. They were hooked to the trees for more than ten hours that saved their lives …

More than 10 hours

The release of the three people who worked on the construction site of the reservoir was achieved after more than 10 hours of efforts by EMAK forces, Firefighters and rescue teams.

Immediately after their rescue, the three men were transferred to the Almyros Health Center, where it was found that they are in good condition and will return to their homes and their families who lived through dramatic hours of agony.

According to information from APE-MPE, the three people who worked on the work are an engineer from Volos, a surveyor-engineer from Larissa and a sub-engineer from the Almyros area.

From the first moment until the rescue was achieved, the governor of Thessaly, Costas Agorastos, the vice governor, Dorothea Kolindrini, the parliamentarian of Magnesia, Christos Boukoros, who comes from the area, and the mayor of Almyros, Vangelis Chatzis, were in the place of operation.

Large volumes of water

There were unsuccessful attempts by firefighters and EMAK men to get closer due to the huge volumes of water coming down from Xirias.

Finally, shortly after 01:00 on Saturday, two caterpillars and bulldozers -military vehicles and a private vehicle respectively- approached the trapped people and around 02:00 they managed to remove them from the water and lower them from the trees that saved life.

The governor of Thessaly, Costas Agorastos, told APE-MPE that “tonight we are experiencing a thriller. We managed to save people after many hours of effort. We are happy to have the three of us by our side again. Congratulations to everyone who put up a great fight ”.
