The Secretary General of ICAO Fang liu (Fang Liu) in his reply letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendia, in relation to the recently adopted illegal Turkish Regulation on the limits and responsibilities of search and rescue (SAR) operations in Athens, emphasizes that there have been no changes in the boundaries and responsibilities of the Athens SAR, once again reaffirming the law of the Greek position.
In the letter, according to the same sources, Ms. Liu also points out that The Turkish side has not submitted any proposals to modify these limits. and that in any case the limits may only be modified if there is agreement of all the States of the region, including, of course, Greece.
The provocative Turkish map
It is recalled that Ankara, on October 18, had boldly announced in the midst of the drum beats vote in favor of a new law that expands your area of search and rescue responsibility and neither more nor less told us that half of the Aegean together with our islands are areas in which Turkey has the right to search and rescue.
In fact, the Minister of Transport of Turkey, Adil Karaismaloglou, has published a relevant map in which it appeared having “marked” half the Aegean and the entire region from Crete to Cyprus.
