Defense Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos had contact for the Greek-Turkish talks at noon with his French counterpart Florence Parley.
Mr. Panagiotopoulos analyzed in Ms. Parley the situation that is developing in the Eastern Mediterranean with Turkish crime, the challenges and the presence of Oruts Reyes in an area of the Greek continental shelf for the third week. The two ministers also discussed weapons and Greece’s interest in acquiring Rafale fighter jets “and expressed the common will to further strengthen defense cooperation between the two countries, as indicated in the announcement by the Ministry of National Defense.
“Greece and France’s commitment to international law underscored their quest to promote security and stability in the broader region through joint initiatives,” the statement said.
It is observed that lately the communication between the two ministers is dense, which shows the rapprochement of the two states, especially on the issue of the Eastern Mediterranean.
As for Oruts Reyes, he has been in the new illegal Navtex issued by Ankara since Tuesday night, accompanied by Turkish warships. At the same time, the Greece – UAE exercises in southern Crete continue.
