According to the information, today’s debate in NATO’s North Atlantic Council was held at the request of Greece.
The same information states that the Greek side made an extensive presentation of Turkish crime in the Aegean and the eastern Mediterranean, highlighting the Turkish fault and the security implications of the southern wing of the Alliance, with the discussion being a particularly useful opportunity to be informed in detail. Member States for the illegal and provocative actions of a member of the Alliance to the detriment of the security and cohesion of the Alliance itself.
Both Greece and some other allies stressed the commitment to Article 1 of the NATO Charter which refers to the UN Charter and, in particular, to the peaceful settlement of disputes and the obligation not to use or threaten with the violence.
Greece also stressed the need for the immediate withdrawal of all Turkish ships, including ORUÇ REIS, from mainland Greece.
Greece is always ready for dialogue, based on international law, without threats or blackmail by Turkey and with the only difference between the two parties.
It should be noted that the Greek side will present its comments to the NATO Secretariat tomorrow on the NATO Secretary General’s proposals for a possible de-escalation mechanism.
