Government efforts to strike the already “wounded” focus, the smallest possible branch of the economy, are being paid for by the government. Companies operating in the sector are slated to open on June 1, but if there is a similar proposal from the “committee of wise men” under Sotiris Tsiodras, it is considered to open a week earlier, on May 25.
Final decisions for the stores will be made May 18-20 as directed by the committee.
The government is seeking measures to increase the number of seats at the table, but without jeopardizing public health. In this context, the distance of two meters between the table seats is reconsidered depending on the design, the limit of 4 people will not apply to families with more people, while there will be tables inside if there is adequate ventilation of the Windows and doors. The country’s municipalities have already agreed to give up more outdoor space due to emergencies.
As Development Minister Adonis Georgiadis pointed out to SKAI, YPAN’s goal is for companies to operate at 80% capacity.
Scenarios for tax cuts
At the same time, there is debate as to whether the VAT on coffee served (but also on soft drinks and beverages) will be reduced from 24% to 13%. As for whether VAT will generally be reduced in restaurants, from 13% to 11% to 12%, it seems more difficult, since it is something that responds to the reaction of the institutions. In the case of hotels, there is the possibility that the rate will be reduced from 13% to 6%, but also if there will be a reduction in VAT on coastal transport and shipping.
However, tax decisions will be considered in the second year, once the focus plan is in place.
