The Health Minister warned of a “difficult winter” Vassilis Kikilias, speaking on the Star’s main newsletter with Mara Zaharea, while leaving open the possibility of a general shutdown in Attica and essentially announcing a travel ban to neighboring prefectures.
“If this trend continues with the increase in the number of ICUs and increase in the number of cases then other measures will also be taken in Attica “, was the clear message from Mr. Kikilias about the consequences of non-compliance with the measures.
The Health Minister recalled how difficult the situation is now in European countries, such as Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Great Britain, etc. but also that “Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis with a sense of responsibility, with respect for medical data and the perception of human life” called on citizens to observe protection measures.
“There is an increase in test and quick test but, unfortunately, there are daily data that get worse. We are concerned about the situation ”, admitted Mr. Kikilias, while when asked if the constant announcement of measures to replace the previous ones generates confusion among citizens, he replied:
“Data can change from one moment to another. This virus is insidious, asymptomatic for many, it forces us to constantly review the data, as it happened in Macedonia.”
The Minister of Health was categorical, however, also on this point “We will not hesitate to take other measures”, in case the data worsens.
Asked if there is a risk of reaching the point of selection of patients in the ICU, as has happened in other countries, Mr. Kikilias replied that “the pressure that the ICU and MAF in Greece are now very high”, praising the heroic efforts of the medical and nursing staff and highlighted “that of course there are reservations at this time“But the situation is getting worse.”
On the same subject, he affirmed that the Ministry of Health has drawn up various plans depending on the pressure exerted in each city, while he announced that on Wednesday the president of EKAB will move permanently to Thessaloniki. “There is the possibility to further increase our ICUs, we have the machines to develop more ICUs like we did last year, but the limits of the system are finite.”
“Where there is a need, we are updating our business plans, while cooperating with the private sector,” Mr. Kikilias said on the same topic, but noted that much of the NSS ‘resistance will depend on the cooperation of citizens. “Everyone must feel the urgency of the moment.” Some put everyone’s health at risk, “he said.
The Minister of Health, also answering a question about how those who wish will not have fun in the neighboring prefectures (Evia and Corinth, since Boeotia is in “red”, as well as Attica), announced a substantial restriction on travel: “Care will be taken and for this obviously, because of the possibility that someone will leave Attica and go to neighboring areas.”
Mr. Kikilias completed his interview in Star’s main newsletter, appealing to the public to comply with the measures. “I ask once again our fellow citizens to feel the urgency of the moment,” said the Minister of Health.
