Coronation deaths in France have almost quadrupled today compared to Sunday, when confirmed cases doubled in 24 hours.

These numbers are expected to fuel fears of a second wave of infections, and the World Health Organization calls for “too much vigilance” in countries that have begun to ease restrictive measures.

The country’s health ministry said it had registered 263 new deaths from the virus, up from 70 on Sunday. In percentage terms, this is an increase of 1%, the highest in five days. However, the data often tends to increase after the weekend.

A total of at least 26,643 deaths have been reported since March 1, according to the Directorate General of Health (DGS). This is the fifth highest in a row after those of the United States, Great Britain, Italy and Spain.

New Covid-19 cases increased by 456 compared to 209 on Sunday, totaling 139,519. Along with nursing home cases that are stable at 37,904, the total number of cases increased by 0.3% to 177,423.

The number of patients treated for the disease is 22,284 (1.2% less), a number that is decreasing by day 27.

The number of severe cases continues to decline with 64 fewer ICU patients totaling 2,712 versus more than 7,000 in early April, at the height of the epidemic.

The French began savoring freedom today, the first day of easing traffic restrictions, but DGS recalls the importance of adhering to “all protective measures, including wearing the mask in crowded places,” stressing that “the epidemic it remains active and evolving. “
