The accident was caused by an 84-year-old driver who “confused the car’s pedals and pressed the accelerator instead of the brake.”
A car crashed into a church in the city of Desis, in central France, just before the start of the operation, dragging and wounding three people, one in the courtyard and two others inside the building.
Of the three injured, only one child had to be taken to Moulin hospital when he broke the key, the parish priest said. “God saved us,” added Father Jean Bosco Akogo. “The whole door and the beams fell down and broke.” Fortunately, there were not many people inside yet, because the beams could crush people, “he explained.
The accident was caused by an 84-year-old driver who “confused the car’s pedals and pressed the accelerator instead of the brake,” local police said. Initially, local authorities even considered the possibility of a terrorist act.
“People called us and said that a car had entered the church in St. Are and that shots had been heard,” said a police officer. Actually, it was the sound of the windows and stalls that crushed the car. “Fortunately, only half of the door was open.” Therefore, the vehicle was forced to turn left and hit a pillar, instead of continuing straight into the corridor, “he added.
The incident caused panic among the approximately 30 believers who were in the temple. “One of them told me that he thought a bomb had exploded,” said Anik Zaiyo, deputy mayor of the community, according to APE-MPE.
