The Senate of the National Technical University of Athens expressed its deep regret with its resolution and the current president of NTUA, Andreas Boudouvis, stated that “NTUA mourns the loss and honors the contribution and memory of an important person and academic citizen.”

S. Simopoulos studied mechanical-electrical engineering at NTUA (1970) and did postgraduate studies at Imperial College London. Among others, he was director of the NTUA Department of Nuclear Technology, vice president of the Hellenic Atomic Energy Committee, president and CEO of the Athens Urban Transport Organization (OASA) and president of all its subsidiaries (ETHEL, ILPAP, ISAP) Secretary General of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, President of the Energy Regulatory Authority and Minister of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks in the interim government of P. Pikrammenos.

The starting sequence will take place on Monday 9/28/2020, at 1:00 p.m., from the Agios Theodoros church in the First Cemetery, in a very tight circle due to the limitations of the pandemic.
