The deadline for submitting offers for the tender expired today after several delays due to the pandemic and the extensions requested by the interested parties. It should be noted that companies from the US, Israel, and Japan had also shown initial interest, but are not listed.
The project will last 10 plus 5 years and is considered one of the largest in the Greek digital technology market.Although it has gained a lot of publicity because it is what will make possible the issuance of new cards, which will be the size of a credit card and will fully follow the security recommendations of international organizations.
It should be noted that this project, under which it is estimated that 45 million security documents will be issued, includes, on the one hand, the development of the computer and printing infrastructure (which amounts to around 100 to 120 million euros) and the provision of the service (approximately 300 million euros). The service refers to the issuance of documents that will be carried out by the human resources of the Ministry of Public Order and the Hellenic Post, but the consumables and technical support will be the responsibility of the contractor consortium.
