Malta’s ambassador to Finland resigned on Sunday after receiving criticism for criticizing German Conservative Chancellor Angela Merkel and Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, the Foreign Ministry said in Valletta.

“Accepting the ambassador’s resignation immediately, Foreign Minister Evarist Bartolo emphasized that the ambassador’s comments on German Chancellor Angela Merkel were not representative of the relationship between friendship and mutual respect between Germany and Malta published by Maltese diplomacy.

Michael Zamett Tampona said in a post on the social networking site Facebook on Friday, 75th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe: “75 years ago we arrested Hitler. Who will arrest Angela Merkel? Complete Hitler’s dream ! To control Europe. ”

Meanwhile, Zamet Tampona, businessman and politician, named ambassador to Helsinki in 2014, removed the controversial message.

Foreign Minister Bartolo told the Times of Malta that he had ordered the ambassador to delete his “unconscious” post and assured him that his country’s government would apologize to Berlin.
