Fines of 231,000 euros were imposed on debtor information companies for overdue debts in 2020.
According to the Secretary General of Commerce and Consumer Protection of the Ministry of Development and Investments, in 2019 there were 185 complaints from consumers for illegal harassment by debtor information companies and financial institutions for their overdue debts and 49 administrative fines were imposed. of law 3758/2009.
Respectively, for the year 2020, 274 complaints were filed and 19 administrative sanctions were imposed, for a total of 231,000 euros.
Specifically, the fines in these companies mainly referred to:
• notification to debtors before the expiration of ten days from the due date of their debt,
• harassment of debtors with calls to the work phone,
• harassment of debtors despite the existence of debt settlement observed,
• deviation from the lender’s orders,
• confusing information,
• Demonstrate offensive behavior during telephone communication.
