Extraordinary measures on the roads due to bad weather “Ianos” – What was announced | HELLAS

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport announced a comprehensive package of measures to prevent the consequences of bad weather “Janos”.

At the time that the Secretary General of Civil Protection declared a state of emergency to the areas that will be in the path of bad weather “Ianos”, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport requested with an urgent letter to the road concessionaires the implementation of the Plan and the immediate Coordinating Body.

It is recalled that the Mediterranean Cyclone has already begun to approach the west of the country with winds exceeding 10 Beaufort.

Measures on the roads for bad weather “Ianos”

The measures requested by the Ministry of Transport to take in the face of bad weather “Janos” are the following:

• -See all the technical staff of the Concessionaire and the Operator and part of the staff of any subcontractor at the project site
  -An on-site vigil of all the personnel that is necessary for the greater operation of the Traffic Management Centers and the Emergency Call Center
  – On-site alert of the project of all patrol and roadside assistance personnel
  -Preparation of all vehicles and machinery of the Concessionaire, Operator and Subcontractors, which can be used in interventions, such as pumping units, cranes, trucks, loaders, etc., and dispersion in dangerous places.
  Continuous patrol vehicle duplication
  Duplication of roadside assistance vehicles and dispersal in dangerous places
  Supply of patrol vehicles with pumps, chainsaws, etc. and reinforcing the patrol personnel with two craftsmen per vehicle
  – Accompany each patrol vehicle with a project vehicle, p. Eg truck or loader, to ensure operation in the event of a power outage
  -Ensure the operation of public lighting before the scheduled time, when necessary
  -Preparation to stop or divert traffic if an object is detected falling on the road
  – Prohibition of continuing the course of vehicles that do not have enough fuel or the windshield wipers do not work
  – Prohibition of continuing the course of trucks with cargo that may fall on the road
  – Prohibition of continuation of the course in trucks that do not have cargo and have a large projection surface of the winds
  – Prohibition of continuing the course in trucks that have a trailer
  – Ban on caravan traffic
  -Information of drivers for low speeds and maintenance of long distances of the vehicles in front. The need to have information and control personnel at the gates where the passage of vehicles with transceiver takes place is emphasized.
  -Cooperation and coordination between Concessions for timely information on the situation and possible assistance in important events
  -Make sure the pumps can run in the event of rain
  Immediate final inspection and cleaning of grates and shafts
  -Cleaning of grills in rainy season
  -Immediate removal of all traffic regulations that have been carried out for maintenance work
