Peplo’s kindergarten, Evros, has been renovated for a few days. Young students do not recognize their school, which now seems new thanks to the determination of the kindergarten teacher, the personal work of their parents and the help of the local authority.

It was in early September that Chrysanthi Baxevani arrived as a kindergarten teacher in the remote village. The image he saw was heartbreaking. The building looked like a bark, it had been painted for years, the toys in the yard were in bad shape and at the same time dangerous for children. The kindergarten teacher took the situation into her own hands without a second thought and together with parents and local agencies became the carpenters and managed to transform the school.

Speaking to APE-MPE, the teacher, full of emotion, affirms that today nothing resembles the kindergarten she met. “I realized that my two hands were not enough and I asked my parents for help. It turned out that the point was to get started. We all became carpenters together. We got brushes, brushes, rakes and went to work from early morning to late afternoon for three Sundays. “With passion, personal work and above all a common love for children, we made a great renovation,” says Ms. Baxevani.

“I don’t think a single parent was missing,” says George Drosakis, a student parent who, along with the babies’ moms and dads, did everything they could to give the school an image of normalcy. “Some of us paint the benches, others take care of plastering and changing the color of the exterior walls,” he points out, emphasizing that the teacher’s initiative was the trigger for everyone to continue and that from now on they will always be close to what is going on. to improve. the daily life of your children.

At the same time, the kindergarten teacher requested the help of the local authorities, who – as she says – responded immediately and provided personnel and machinery to tackle the most difficult tasks. The Deputy Mayor of Ferra, Dimitris Koglionis, explained, in statements to APE-MPE, that in the context of the interventions in all school units, an attempt was made to bravely maintain Peplos’s kindergarten, which was abandoned during many years. “The synergies transported massive objects, took over the tile roof, with the municipality’s machines we cleaned the environment of wood and branches that had years to collect and we achieved a good result,” he underlines.

The cultural association of Peplos joined the alliance of volunteer artisans. As the association’s president, George Gialamatzis, points out, its members also participated in the kindergarten teacher’s call with encouragement and fun, taking their own tools. “The effort of the kindergarten teacher who has just arrived in our village is commendable, not only did she not rest, but she did all the work for our kindergarten, so the least we could do was literally put our own touch Like a large part of the painting, the club took over ”, he explains.

For ten days, Peplos’s “percussion team,” led by the immovable kindergarten teacher, did it all. They repaired roofs, glued broken stair treads, and furthermore from the back, where there was no access and led to a backyard, they cleared wild jungle-like grass, so that the backyard suddenly appeared.

This is not the first time the kindergarten teacher has not sat with her arms crossed. The previous school where he taught, in Amaranta, Rodopi, also had problems and thanks to his stubbornness to become more functional, since it was a large school but with only one room for teaching and warehouses θήκες, he managed to leave behind at the end of his course . of a psychomotor room and a dining room.

In fact, the active kindergarten teacher had won the silver award in the “Education Leaders Awards” competition with her collaborators and students, participating in the category “Innovation in Teaching”. His participation was entitled “The triptych of success” and had to do with the school community (teachers, children, parents), the municipal authority and local entrepreneurship.

With thirteen years in the private sector and another thirteen in public education as a deputy, mother of two, lives in Alexandroupolis and travels 85 kilometers every day to find her job in the uncritical Velo. She showed that when you want, you can change everything and she, as she says, does not change the huge smiles of the nine little ones who now have a different kindergarten.
