“The … car alarm from hell” and the “electronic eyes” will significantly enhance Evros’s shield. These are modern on-board and portable systems that will make the Greek presence of deterrence more visible at the borders and are presented exclusively by SKAI.
“The alarm from hell”
Sound systems are some of the super weapons acquired by the Greek Police to deal with the Turkish provocation at Evros. This equipment is essentially a sound barrier that reduces the possibility of interference. It causes panic without bodily harm, acts as a deterrent and makes it impossible for someone to reach the Greek coast to violate our borders.
As Panagiotis Harelas, President of the Border Guard, explained to SKAI, “Last March, during the period of the migratory movement instigated in Kastanies, the sound systems would have made a difference, we would not have been subjected to such stifling pressure. They are portable, they can be transported to any place that is needed so that the presence of ELAS is felt everywhere to avoid illegal entry ”.
It is characteristic that the maximum continuous volume of sound systems can reach up to 162 decibels, while the average volume of a conversation is 60 dB, 120 dB is the sound of a jet and the human can support up to 130 dB, while The range reaches 4 km within the Turkish side. At the same time, they function as an “electronic ear” as voices are amplified and recorded (long-range acoustic device).
Manufacturers describe sound systems as a “car alarm from hell” because it can cause shock, panic, and disorientation of the target. However, at this stage, ELAS uses the devices only to make its presence felt over a large geographic area.
The “electronic eyes”
At the same time, an automated camera system that emerged after the actions of the Center for Security Studies and the ELVO offering will be the “electronic eyes” of the police and border guards day and night. The project foresees the creation of three other border control centers such as the one in Nea Vyssa and will cover the entire length of the Greek-Turkish border to the sea, that is, there will be a timely border image 24 hours a day, and in fact very clear.
“The camera surveillance system now works day and night, and during the day it can give us a much better image, but also at night an image of more than 3.5 kilometers. Night turns to day, we can easily see any movement at this point ”emphasizes Mr. Harelas.
Evros’ armor will be reinforced by new, specially designed 4×4 vehicles, while the multipurpose armored vehicles that were received in March patrol the entire length of the river. At the same time, the recruitment of border guards and the expansion of the fence greatly strengthens the Greek borders.
