Even the Virgin bothered them

On November 21, our Church celebrates the Entry of the Virgin Mary, who is considered, almost by the establishment of the Greek state, the patroness of the Armed Forces. That is why a short video was shown on the facade of Parliament on Saturday, November 21, in honor of this day.

The “branded” leftists rose up, as well as the well-known and not exceptional shapers of Internet public opinion, for precisely that reason.

Others resented the projection of the image of the Virgin Mary, because they felt that her values, derived from the Enlightenment, were offended.

Some even referred to secularism.

Others were upset that this video reminded them of the meeting’s celebrations. Let them deal with this psychoproblem with psychoanalysis.

The bottom line is one and only one.

Is it allowed to show a video with this content, that is, in honor of the Armed Forces, in front of Parliament?

Thanks to the discussion, I accept that objections to the aesthetics of the video in question may have some basis. But this conversation falls back on de gustibus et coloribus non disputandum.

Let’s get to the heart of the matter.

No one can question the contribution of the Armed Forces to the integration of the Nation. No one can deny its role – in the two centuries of modern history – in this national effort, and no one, with few exceptions, has denied it over time.

At the same time, no one can deny that the Parliament building not only symbolizes Democracy and Freedom, but mainly symbolizes the struggles given by the Greeks to conquer them. The Armed Forces also played a leading role in this fight.

Period, dash.

For this reason, the Monument to the Unknown Soldier is located in front of the Parliament building and not elsewhere. It is a tribute to the Army expressed in the face of the anonymous fighter who gave his life for Freedom.

The Parliament and the Monument are a single space.

Hellenism celebrates this contribution of the Army on the day that its Patroness, the Virgin Mary, also celebrates.

Therefore, from the moment we accept that the specific video on the facade of the Parliament building was projected correctly, for the reasons I mentioned above, there is no need to argue whether the image of the Virgin Mary was projected for good or for evil.

It was imperative!

Nor do I comment, by concession, the fact that the image of the Virgin Mary was shown for only four seconds, for a total video time of about four minutes. If we get into this discussion it will be like admitting that if the image of the Virgin Mary were projected for forty seconds, it would be wrong.

I understand the anxiety of some people trying to find reasons not to agree with something. Their problem is existential, as they confirm their existence, each time, through disagreement and objection.

At the same time, they thus stand out from the “mob”, from the common mind of human beings, as they think.

I formed this vision of this video, having little dogmatic relationship with the Church, but deeply believing that together with the Armed Forces it is one of the key components of the Greek Nation.
