The proposal for a European arms embargo on Turkey, presented by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Summit, was well received by the member states of the European Union and supported by the Franco-German axis.
The Prime Minister, taking advantage of the climate of distrust that exists towards Turkey both in the leadership of the EU and among the Member States, decided to raise the issue of the arms embargo directly with the leaders at the Summit, as it is a measure that hurts to Recep Tayyip Erdogan because he questions his geopolitical power at a time when he has opened fronts from Nagorno-Karabakh to Libya, Syria and the Eastern Mediterranean.
In this sense, the series of measures adopted by the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the EU that will be imposed on Turkey if Europe so decides is enriched with another powerful weapon.
The embargo will reportedly be considered in the near future alongside the other measures taken by the EU, as indicated in the conclusions of the Summit on 1 and 2 October, and in fact gives Ankara three weeks to change your position and behavior. This is because the extraordinary Berlin Summit in November is already scheduled. Until then, the EU will closely monitor Turkey, how it will behave and act accordingly.
