Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday (10/26) that it was time to discuss a realistic proposal for a two-state solution in Cyprus, adding that the parameters of the current negotiations are not sustainable.
He also announced that he would visit the occupied territories on November 15.
In a press conference with Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar in Ankara, Erdogan said that the Greek Cypriot approach had blocked previous efforts to find a solution, emphasizing that the federation was not a model of solution that could be valid and needed new ones.
“It should be understood that no result can be achieved under the current parameters after a negotiation process that has lasted more than half a century,” said the Turkish president.
“At this stage, we believe that initiating talks based on a federation will be a waste of time.” Therefore, we believe that a two-state solution with a realistic proposal should now be brought to the table. “
As he specifically stated, “there are already two separate peoples, who have established two separate states at this time.” The basis of the solution, “in which the two peoples will be able to coexist in peace, prosperity and security, is based on the realities of the island.” I believe that now the two-state solution must be put on the negotiating table with a realistic approach ”.
Tartarus, for his part, said that the Turkish proposal to hold an informal five-party conference between Turkey, the pseudo-state, Greek Cypriots, Greece and the United Nations was “the last chance” for an agreement.
In our opinion, your proposal for a conference involving the ‘Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’ to discuss the latest developments in the eastern Mediterranean is realistic and constructive. As we have said many times, the issue of hydrocarbons is a test of honesty on the part of the C / C. “With your support, we would like to make more external contacts, explain our arguments and be more visible in the international arena”, said Tatar .
Taking the floor again, the Turkish president suggested that they have a picnic in Varosia. “On November 15 we will make a visit to northern Cyprus. With this visit we will participate in the events of that day and at the same time we will make the inauguration of the hospital, so we will have reciprocated your visit. Let us all do it together. And probably, Mr. Tsavousoglou, I say we can have a picnic in the closed Varosia. “Is there something to stop us?” Erdogan said, adding: “It is useful to have a picnic that day. We look from here on the screens. We want to experience it personally. The doors are open, now let’s open the streets there. May our Cypriot brothers see the steps to be taken and live. “
