Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin today that Ankara wants a final solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh problem, according to a statement from the Turkish presidency.

For his part, the Russian president expressed his concern to Erdogan about the involvement of fighters from Middle Eastern countries in the clashes in the enclave, according to a statement issued by the Kremlin on the telephone communication of the two leaders.

Putin and Erdogan reaffirmed the importance of the Moscow-brokered ceasefire in the war and, in theory, it came into effect on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, Russia again called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to end hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh, after the warring parties blamed each other for further violations of the ceasefire.

Azerbaijan has accused Armenia of trying to attack its oil and gas pipelines and warned of a “serious” response.

Turkey has accused Armenia of occupying Azerbaijani territory and has pledged its full support to Azerbaijan. Ankara has repeatedly called on the Minsk Group (led by France, Russia and the United States) to urge Armenia to withdraw from the region.
