In the condemnation of the philologist in EPAL Ymittou, which she was not using mask protection against coronavirus in the classroom, the Athens Three-Member Misdemeanor Court proceeded with its decision.

By its decision, the court imposed on accused philologist 12 months in prison with a three-year suspension. The teacher was found guilty of violating the measures against the spread of the coronavirus and the interruption of service. However, his court recognized the attenuation of the previous legal life.

The guilt of the accused professor had been previously requested at the hearing by the department’s prosecutor, who, among other things, stated that the philologist had declared himself a specialist in infectious diseases. Among other things, the prosecutor said in his speech: “The issue is not the mask, but respect for the law. If someone applies it when they try, we lead to a society of anarchy. The defendant constantly says “I judged, I decided, my opinion is”, that is, she says that she decided to wear a mask whenever she wanted. As he left the hearing, he followed the other measures, but judged, thought, decided not to wear a mask, referred to an infectious disease specialist. I wonder if you still understand the danger that exists. I ask that they find him guilty. “

On the contrary, a notary, a friend of the teacher, who testified in court, said that in the school where the accused teaches due to personal disputes with another teacher, there is “toxic climate». The witness also noted that the philologist was taking all other protective measures against the coronavirus.

It is recalled that the philologist was arrested on October 23 after complaints and videos were posted on the internet, where she appeared in the classroom of the students without a mask and the students shouted that she should use it.

The apology

For her part, the defendant said in her apology to the court that she had informed both the school principal and the students that due to an otitis that had been bothering her lately, she would make extensive use of it. “Mask break”. However, he said he was taking all other measures to protect himself from the coronavirus.

Regarding the incident related by the mother of a student in which her son was expelled from class because he asked the teacher to put on a mask, the philologist said: “The specific student on the day that I suggested that he go out with other classmates was very concerned and along with the others they were insulting and cursing. The section was a small jungle. He had a duty to put them back in order. Of course, I did not punish them, nor did I put them on a criminal list. I never told them to go away and go away. In fact, I made extensive use of the “breaking of the mask” for medical reasons during the lesson and had informed both the EPAL director and the students, taking all other means of protection provided. I would never endanger my students and colleagues. “

The school principal also testified at the trial, stating that he learned of the incident when the student’s mother came before him to report it: “I told the mother not to report in, but to call the teacher to solve the problem. The philologist came without a mask, his mother told him and my colleague left saying that he had a lesson. Then the mother made a report. I have not seen whether or not he is wearing a mask, but I have reports of the five-membered and the fifteen-membered that he was not wearing and they abstained from their lesson. He has a good resume, an excellent scientist and professor. He did not want to endanger the children, he opened the windows, he used antiseptics. I did not expect that. “No child is sick.”
