Fingerprint examination at the Athens Forensic Medicine morgue showed that the body of a man who was transported there from the Hippocratic Hospital in Athens was the one sought for two decades by the 59-year-old physician-appointed Elias Mazarakis.
According to the exclusive information from “Tunnel”, Mazarakis, who was on Interpol’s wanted list for several years, was transported on Wednesday 16 December by EKAB ambulance from his home in Nea Smyrni to the Hippocratic Hospital.
He arrived at the hospital with different details since he allegedly had false documents with him and ended in the early morning of December 17. As his death progressed, a friend of his, a lawyer, appeared and presented a solemn declaration stating his true facts. When the Police were informed of this, on December 22, by order of necropsy-necropsy, the Athens Forensic Medicine Service, requested a fingerprint to ensure that it was indeed the wanted Ilias Mazarakis.
The forensic physician who performed the autopsy attributed his death to pathological causes. The deceased suffered from chronic liver cirrhosis and was in the final stage.
When the actual details of the dead were known, the police could not believe that they were holding the dead, the hardened criminal of years. According to information from the program, the body was transferred to a funeral home for burial, which has yet to take place.
The Police are already investigating to find out in what circumstances the wanted Elias Mazarakis was in our country, how long ago, if he is involved in other crimes and who offered him coverage.
In addition to the double murder of Nikolaidis – Kalathaki, Mazarakis was charged with the murder in Corfu in 1985 of Stylianos Doukas’ grandfather and his aunt Eftychia. The cause of the double murder was hereditary. Three years later, the Corfu Joint Criminal Court sentenced him to life imprisonment.
On September 6, 1997, he violated his five-day license and disappeared, apparently to “activate” himself in the Nikolaidis-Kalathaki case.
The identity of the “doctor” was revealed after his death and to be precise at the morgue. In the hospital where he recovered, he had left the phone number of his childhood friend, a lawyer by profession, so that they can notify him in case he dies.
And so it happened … This woman was also the man who revealed the true identity of the doctor, inside the morgue, when he went to identify him.
“I’ve been watching it since 1996”
Speaking to MEGA, the woman described everything that happened and the identity of the “doctor” was revealed.
“They took me to inform me that Akis Tassioulas had died in Ippokratio hospital. Tasioula didn’t know. Akis knew him. I have known Akis since my childhood. So I went to see what it was about. They took me to the morgue and I told them that his name is not Tasioulas, his name is Mazarakis Elias… He reported during his presentation that if something happened they would contact me and I had given them my mobile phone number ”.
She says she had no contact with him and did not know that Elias Mazarakis lived in Nea Smyrni. They were friends since childhood due to friendly family relationships. They also kept in touch as students. When he went to prison, their relationship changed. “He wasted his life,” he characteristically says. All the years he was searched were not found. I had seen him since 1996, when he got out of jail …
Elias Mazarakis has been missing since 1997, when his name was implicated in the execution of businessman Giorgos Nikolaidis and his colleague Soulas Kalathaki. At the threshold of 2021 it was found that he was living in Nea Smyrni with false information.
Interestingly, however, the fact that “Akis Tassioulas”, whose name was used by the fugitive in recent years, is a real person and, according to a report from MEGA, is still alive βρίσκεται
Who was the “doctor” Elias Mazarakis?
The nickname “doctor” was not accidental, since Elias Mazarakis had studied Medicine in Italy in 1985.
After being convicted of the double murder of his relatives, he was transferred to the prisons of Alikarnassos, where he met TK, later accused of kidnapping and killing the Nikolaidis – Kalathakis couple. THK was sentenced to several years in prison for robbery and extortion, but succeeded in having his sentence suspended in August 1997.
This was followed in November of the same year by the kidnapping and murder of Nikolaidis and Kalathaki in the office of Sesi Grammatikou, with the participation, as is clear from a series of testimonies, of the “brain” TK and Mazarakis – “doctor”.
Following the arrest of nine people and the trial that followed, Mazarakis was charged with double murder, but sentenced to nine months in prison for illegal possession and use of a firearm. He was absent during the trial and was tried only for misdemeanors…. The main prosecution witness in this trial who testified for days was Angeliki Nikolouli, who provided all the evidence, documents that the program identified in its many years of investigation.
At that time, it was believed that the “doctor” left for Holland and then for South America, probably in Caracas, Venezuela.
As the EL.AS officers said in the “Tunnel”, there was also the version that the “doctor” left Piraeus on a cargo ship bound for Panama. Nothing was tested.
However, the apartment that he had declared as his place of residence, at 57 Larissis street in Ampelokipi, where his now-deceased mother lived, is closed and the neighbors “have seen it for years.”
Until his sudden death and his fingerprints solved the mystery of the murderer – “ghost” who managed to escape from the police and live among us undisturbed.
What Kalathaki’s mother says
Angeliki Nikolouli informed Kaiti Kalathaki, the mother of the unfortunate Soula, about the developments, who for years had a big fight with the journalist to reveal the truth.
“Proof Divine my Angeliki. He got what he deserved, but did it take twenty-three years for him to be found by chance? For me, this wound will never heal. And now, at Christmas, I was in my Soula grave. I was unjustly lost … The justice did not punish him, God punished him ”, she said excitedly.
What Nikolaidis’s sister says
Surprised to hear the news from Angeliki Nikolaouli and Olga Kakoulidou, sister of George Nikolaidis.
“Did he live among us and the authorities didn’t find him?” He wondered.
“It’s definitely justification, even after so many years.” But my brother is not coming back and that still hurts. “
