The large batch of Pfizer-BioNTech, 83,850 doses, arrived in Athens at 8.30 am on Tuesday as part of the “Freedom” plan, which includes the gradual supply of vaccines, their availability at vaccination centers and group vaccination. population, according to the prioritization of the National Vaccination Committee. The shipment arrived in our country with a special flight that landed at the Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos”.

This is the largest batch of vaccines that has reached our country. Security measures are draconian, with lines from ELAS, Army and Civil Protection at the airport. The vaccines are loaded into special trucks in deep-frozen conditions, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection and Crisis Management Nikos Hardalias. Representatives of the Armed Forces, Police and Firefighters are also at the airport. “We continue based on our business plan,” said Hardalias.

The batch of vaccines will be distributed to the five central storage points, and from there the distribution will take place in the vaccination centers. It is added to the 9,750 quotas received by Greece on December 26.

Vaccine dose schedule

Each week will be followed by the remaining deliveries of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines corresponding to the population of our country and based on the Central European agreement, we will be delivered 419,250 doses at the end of January and another 333,450 doses at the end of February.
By the end of March, we will have only received 1,255,800 quotas from Pfizer-BioNTech, and that number is likely to increase if the EU accepts an additional 100,000,000 quotas.

To these quotas will be added Moderna deliveries, which are expected to be approved by Coreper on January 6 and refer to 240,000 for the first quarter of 2021.

To these will be added the deliveries of the AstraZeneca company, and after receiving approval from Coreper, 500,000 installments at the end of January, 800,000 in February, 1.5 million in March and 2.2 million in April. Also to these, after approvals, will be added the deliveries of three more companies.

Vaccination schedule

It is noted that on Tuesday the coronavirus vaccinations of healthcare workers begin at the Thessaloniki AHEPA University General Hospital and at the University Hospitals of Patras, Larissa and Ioannina.

General vaccination of toilets will begin on January 4 and the first dose of vaccination of toilets, nursing homes, chronic care units and rehabilitation centers is expected to be completed on January 20.

At the same time, on January 20, it is estimated that the vaccination of the population will begin according to the prioritization of the National Vaccination Committee.
