Πλή The Financial Police Directorate located a fully equipped illegal tobacco production and processing plant in an area of Attica.
Four members of the criminal organization operating the illegal operation were arrested, while 25 tons of “production” were seized.
A case was filed against the four people, including the man who had rented the space, who is being sought by a criminal organization for violations of the customs code and legislation for the regulation of issues related to tobacco taxes.
Daily production of 2 tons of tobacco.
According to the police, the criminal organization acted with continuous and operationally structured action, with the aim of illegally benefiting from the production of smuggled tobacco products and their resale in the domestic market and abroad.
In particular, since January 2019, the criminal organization had rented a warehouse in an area of Attica, where it installed and operated an illegal factory, with modern equipment and the ability to process approximately 2 tons of tobacco per day.
Of the searches in the warehouse-factory, in the courtyard and in the possession of those arrested, in total they were found and confiscated:
– 25 tons of contraband tobacco,
– fully equipped smoke treatment line,
– 2 power generators to support the operation of the plant,
– a series of machines to support the operation of the illegal plant,
– truck with false license plates, inside which were found 200 kilos of raw tobacco in leaves,
– 22,950 euros,
– 2 motorized clarks and (8) manual pallets,
– 600 blank paper boxes of various sizes,
– 2 closed-circuit surveillance cameras,
– car, two-wheeled motorcycle and 4 mobile phones.
It should be noted that the evaded taxes and other tobacco charges, according to the confiscated amounts, are estimated at 6,500,000 euros.
The detainees with the case against them were taken to the Athens Prosecutor’s Office.
