A malicious attachment, which belongs to the category “Trojan Horse”, is sent to citizens via e-mails, according to pertinent complaints to the Directorate of Cybercrime Processing (PPC), which draws their attention.
In particular, according to PPC, the victim receives a message from an unknown email address, in which the displayed sender name exists and belongs to his contact list, the content of the message is an excerpt from a previous conversation between the sender displayed and another contact (or victim), while a file (usually a word type) containing malicious executable code is attached.
According to PPC, this type of malware is used, among other things, to open “back doors” in a system for the attacker to control the infected device, steal the user’s personal data and download and download other malware.
PPC recommends the following to Internet users:
– Observe the sender’s address of an email message and especially the differences in the displayed name and the sender’s email.
– Back up files (backup) at regular intervals, to external storage and keep them offline so they can be restored.
– In cases where you receive emails from unknown senders or of unknown origin, do not open the links and do not download the attached files, contained in these messages, of which the sender and its attached content are not known with certainty.
– Use genuine software programs, updated in their latest version, provided that there is an updated program to protect against computer malware.
– Consult and always have the updated version of your operating system.
Disable running macros and JavaScript in applications that open .docx and .pdf files.
– To take care of the protection of your mobile devices (tablets and smartphones).
