At 3 o’clock in the afternoon, the 17-year-old Mars funeral was held, attended by, among others, colleagues of the unfortunate student.
At 12 noon, family, friends, classmates, parents and teachers said goodbye to Claire, 15, for the last time at Agios Charalambos Church in Vathi, Samos. Most of them dressed in white, the girl’s companions accompanied her to her last home.
Also present at the funeral were the Deputy Minister of Education, Sofia Zacharaki, as well as a group from EMAK who found the two children crushed by the ruins.

How the children lost their lives
It is remembered that the two unhappy children had sat on a step, after finishing school, and were talking, when due to the strong earthquake a wall fell and they were crushed.
When firefighters saw notebooks lying next to the fallen wall, they immediately realized that something bad had happened. Unfortunately, after a while they found the two dead children, hugging each other.
The children’s parents are shocked.
Speaking Sunday morning, the boy’s father described what happened shortly after 1:51 p.m. Friday when the deadly earthquake struck.
“Aris hugged Claire to protect her, but they didn’t have time to react, it all happened in five seconds, the plate fell directly on the children and they didn’t have time to react,” said Mr. Komninos, speaking with SKAI.
Like he said, he first found the children’s bags with Claire’s father. He said rescuers and firefighters were digging with their hands to save the children and thanked the chief of the Samos fire department. “I froze when I saw the EKAB stretchers, I said ‘the game is over’,” he said characteristically.
Referring to the abandoned buildings that exist on the island, Mr. Komninos said: “A solution must be found with the abandoned buildings in the memory of our children. There are 30- to 40-year-old abandoned buildings, and the debris that city officials must collect again these buildings will be fraught with dangers. The prime minister saw the point and could not believe what he saw… From this point, and from other adjacent streets in the same situation, Aris and Claire passed to gain time ”.
“Live every moment. This is our message. Time does not go back. Hug all your children. Love them” is the message of the mother of the undefeated 15 years.
