After the 6.7 Richter scale that occurred at noon, the aftershocks have not stopped, and the Geodynamic Institute of Athens recorded about 60 after the main earthquake. Many of the island’s inhabitants have left their homes and live in tents set up by Civil Protection with the Ministry of Infrastructure, or in their cars, as the earth continues to shake all night.

Most of the nearly 60 aftershocks recorded are over 3 Richter. The largest was recorded at 01:53 and 03:40 as both were on the order of 4.2 Richter. Another was recorded at 4.1 Richter, while in the vast majority, the remaining aftershocks are 3 to 3.9 Richter.

The island has been severely damaged and a mini-tsunami has caused even more problems, forcing residents to flee areas near the sea.
